Paro Dzong

  • Ta Dzong and National Museum, it has a collection of more than 3000 artefacts

  • Paro Dzong (Rinchen Pung Dzong) or Fortress of a Heap of Jewels

  • Dumtse Lhakhang, chorten-like temple, which is very rare in Bhutan

  • Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples built in the 7th century

  • Taktsang Goemba (Tiger’s Nest), a sacred Buddhist site first built in 1692, the monastery sits on a cliff at 3,120 m/10,240 ft

  • Drukgyal Dzong, a former fortress and monastery now in ruins, it was destroyed by fire, from here you can get a fabulous view on Mount Jomolhari

  • Tashog Lhakhang, Buddhist monastery, you can cross the famous iron bridge here

  • Dzongdrakha Goemba, four chapels and a large chorten sit atop a cliff

  • Paro weekend market – fresh vegetables and local handicrafts

  • Tamchog Lhakhang is a temple built in honour of the Saint Thangthong Gyalpo, the iron chain bridge builder. In order to get to the temple one has to cross the iron chain suspension bridge over the Pa Chhu River

 

Chelela Pass

  • The Chele La Pass sits on 3,988 m/13,844 ft and is Bhutan’s highest road pass

  • It is a 35 km drive from Paro and 26 km from Haa

  • Numerous prayer flags flutter endlessly in the wind

  • It is also a sky burial site

  • Mount Jomolhari can be seen on a clear day
